Back from Borders 12/15/08 (1 of 2)
Oh hey guys, this is Mac Heads 101. Oh, what's in the bag? Well, I just got back from Borders. Oh, you want to see what's in there? Okay, I'll show you.
Okay, well, sorry for that funky little introduction. I thought I might mix things up today, and um, as you can tell, I just got back from Borders and I got three magazines and a book that I thought I might want to share with you. So, let's get started! I'll do the book first, then the magazines.
So, if you care a lot, not just about Apple, but about like Steve Jobs and how Apple got started—not just their products—you might like this book. It says it's called "Inside Steve's Brain" by um, on the second pronouncing his name, Linder Kahani. There it is!
Um, there's the idea of the thickness about an inch, maybe an inch and a half, closer to an inch, and the back has some quotes. I just started reading it. I mean, I barely started. I just read like maybe a couple pages, like 10 pages, something like that, and um, it was really good so far.
And I think if you care about how Apple got started, about Steve Jobs and um, what he did like after he got kicked out of Apple—uh, what he did with Pixar or stuff like that—I think you should check out this book "Inside Steve's Brain". There we go!
So, put that to the side. Next, I got a couple of magazines, three magazines actually, um, and so I'll just do them in order. Wow, yeah, "The Beach"—it's not a great start for a magazine.
Okay, so um, there were lots of Mac magazines out there, so I recommend going to Borders or Barnes and Noble and checking them out. But here are just um, I just chose to pick a couple to get and see if I like them, and then if I like them, I guess I'll subscribe to them.
And um, let's get started because um, some other ones were just like accessories that are good to get with your Mac, like um, cameras or skins for your iPod. I, I wasn't as interested in that as it says some like um, cool stuff like um, okay I'll just get started and you'll see what I'm talking about.
So, the first one's called "Mac Format". So um, they have four things on the bottom. First off, they come with a disc with like software and stuff on it—fine file software and stuff like that, obviously. You can even work with Mac for 15.99 at Borders. It has tutorials, group tests, and investigations.
So, let's see what since I... another cool thing is all the advertisements are going to be about things that would interest you, like Macs and stuff like that. So here, um, the heart tells you how the iPhone gets stronger about Adobe CS4, um, the VMware Fusion. This is a nice way to run Windows on your Mac if you're not ready to do the switch yet.
"Apple on the High Street" has some articles you might like. This tells you about how to use um, iWork—the essentials, the iPhone hint book, choose your own features. It's pretty cool! It tells you ways so um, you can save money on your Mac.
Here are some cool stuff! It tells you some free online services such as um, Google Docs, a way to store documents online. Um, this, this is the free section—um, free applications for your Mac, such as um, a few of these I've seen; most of them I haven't. I'll have to try out, like um, I just looked at this earlier and I saw a live station.
It's um, for 10.4 Macs or later. Um, you can actually view live TV. You can stream live TV like CNN and stuff onto your computer, so I thought that that was really cool. I tested out and it has a really nice graphical user interface.
So, so just reading from this, I learned a new application that works really well. It's free too! It tells you about some open-source applications, how to turn your holiday pictures into art, which pictures you should use if you took pictures, and just some tips and tricks in taking pictures.
Some tutorials on how to do stuff in iMovie, some stuff in iTunes. It shows you how to stream music on your iPhone— that's really cool! You just do some stuff in iTunes instead. It gives you step-by-step instructions, so step by step, and um, once again all the advertisements are going to be stuff you care about, like skins, instead of just advertisement if I don't know, food, or some random thing that has nothing to do with what you care about.
The history of the iPod—from what we know today, that just came out today—it's all the way to the first iPod in 2001. It tells you what Apple thought about stuff, how they changed. I think this is really neat!
I'm going quickly because I don't want to go over my 10 limit minute, but I'm already at six minutes and 35 seconds, so I don't know how well that's gonna work out. Probably I don't have to make this a two-part video.
It tells you some tricks on buying an iPod, like um, which one you should get. If you're more worried about space, you should get iPod Classic. If you're more worried about, I don't know, games and the internet, then you should get an iPod Touch.
Some cool accessories to come with it, your Mac, some software you should get for your Mac. And once again, it comes with a CD right here—each issue will come with the CD, three full programs on your disk, so I'll have to try that out later. Hold on, okay, next! Wow, seven minutes and three seconds!
"I Create: The Best Magazine for Your Mac—Free CD Inside!" Okay, "I Create" has... whoa, this is cool! Okay, tutorials on iMovie, um, my photo, away iMovie 06, idvd, away iWeb, away and GarageBand. And this is really cool how they organize this; it looks like it's on your Mac.
It tells you about Bill Gates's new advertisement, their thoughts on it, and look! You see how there's like the Apple sign? The scene? I think that's really cool how they organized that! Look at this huge advertisement!
Okay, another advertisement. Is it an Apple sign or is it an iPod Nano? Who knows? This shows you how to burn DVDs with Apple script into a DVD. So um, I think that's really cool! You can actually create a DVD that you could play in any DVD player for free on your Mac if you just read this and listen to what it tells you to.
If you're if you like music, this tells you how to do some cool stuff with GarageBand and other stuff like that, use Final Cut Express—a really advanced um, video editing tool. This tells you 20 tips to fix your Mac, make it faster, run more smoothly. This is a tutorial on changing the screen resolutions. Most people probably already know how to do that, but in case you want to know...
