Rant: Doing this one thing will help ANY career - and most people don’t do it

What's up you guys? It's great news! So, I'm going to be sharing a very common-sense tip that will help you out dramatically in business. I don't care if you're self-employed or if you're an employee; it doesn't matter. Doing this one thing will dramatically increase your results, and it's very common-sense—and I feel like a lot of people miss this, and that's why I'm going to stress it in this video.

All it is, is doing just a little bit more than what's expected from you. Go above and beyond what other people think and expect you to do, and they will be blown away. That's the best way to lead such a positive impression of someone; it's just to go above and beyond and do a little bit more than what everyone else is doing.

It's such a common concept—I mean, how easy is it just to say "do a little bit more"? How easy is it just to say "go above and beyond, do something that other people are doing, just give them a little bit more than everyone else"? How easy is it to say that? The sad thing is that very, very, very few people actually do this.

Think about that first. I guess if you want to stand out, if you want to make a positive impression on someone, all you need to do is a little bit more than what they expect from you. And this is what I've noticed: when you do exactly what's expected from you, nobody even notices; nobody even bats an eye. When someone tells you to do something and you do exactly what you're told, no one even gives you recognition for it.

And the reason why is because they expected you from the beginning to do exactly what you're told. If someone told you to go and do something and you do that exactly, they're just like, "Well, great! No, he did exactly what he was supposed to do. Why should I give him any recognition for that? That's what he was supposed to do."

But when you do a little bit more, when you go above and beyond, when you make a little bit more effort, when you do something a little bit extra—only then does it really stand out. Only then do you really get the recognition. If you do a little bit more, it's something so easy to do; it's something that you can easily implement as soon as you're done watching this video. Immediately, in any line of work, just do a little bit more than what everyone else is doing, and that's the easiest way to stand out and make a positive impression.

For me in real estate, for example, it is one of the simplest things you could do: just go a little bit out of your way and make sure the client is happy. Do something that you're not paid to do; do something that's not your job. Do something a little bit more that's going to make the client happy, and that is the easiest way to get repeat business. That is the easiest way to get referral business, and that is the easiest way to end up making more money, just by doing something as simple as doing a little bit more than what you're supposed to be doing.

It's such a simple concept, and it's so common sense. It's one of these video topics that, like, I shouldn't even have to make because it should already be in your line of thought—just doing more than what's expected from you. But unfortunately, it's something that gets missed so frequently because most people just have the idea of doing exactly what they're told, doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing, and that's it.

But unfortunately, that's not good enough to get ahead, and it's not good enough to stand out. Even me on YouTube, for example, I make such an effort to go above and beyond and respond to all my comments. Same thing with on Snapchat: if anyone messages me a subject, you probably know I responded to you in some way or another. I very rarely miss messages, even though I get dozens and sometimes hundreds of messages per day on Snapchat. I do my best to respond to each and every one of you, and it's a simple concept—it's just going above and beyond that really makes a huge difference long-term.

So with that said, that's something you can implement as soon as you finish watching this video. That's how easy it is, and that's how stupidly—just seriously, this is how stupidly common-sense this is. I hope you're watching this video right now and being like, "Oh Graham, I already knew this! Like, tell me something I don't!" I really hope you're thinking that as you're watching this video because that's how simple common sense is—so many people keep missing it.

So please, as soon as you're done watching this video, I don't care if you're unemployed somewhere; I don't care if you're a business owner; I don't care if you're a realtor; I don't care if you're an investor. It doesn't matter what you're doing, just if you're interacting in any sort of business whatsoever with people. Go above and beyond! Do something a little bit more than you did the day before. Do something that's not your job. Do something that you're not paid to do. People take notice!

Anytime you do something that you're not obligated to do, but you do it anyway to make the customer happy—people just notice. It makes such a huge difference.

So with that said, thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate it. If you haven't already, click Subscribe; we love the support! I'm going to be releasing a lot more videos coming up, so if you want to stay tuned to that, click Subscribe. Also, feel free to add me on Instagram or Snapchat; I post pretty much daily. If you want to be a part of it, feel free to add me.

Thank you again for watching, and until next time. [Music]
