Женщина из Нью-Джерси стала вторым пациентом с живым мозгом, кому пересадили почку свиньи. Её случай, однако, сильно отличается от операции у массачусетского пациента, о которой мы рассказывали месяц назад.

Во-первых, у неё, кроме почечной недостаточности с гемодиализом, присутствовала ещё и тяжёлая сердечная недостаточность. Из-за гемодиализа ей нельзя было устанавливать искусственный левый желудочек, это вспомогательный насос для сердца. А из-за проблем с кровообращением ей нельзя было вставать в очередь на донорскую почку.

Поэтому, когда ей предложили экспериментальное лечение, она согласилась. 4 апреля ей поставили искусственный желудочек. А уже через 8 дней, после нормализации кровообращения, провели операцию по пересадке генно модифицированной свиной почки.

Во-вторых, почка содержала в себе только одну генетическую модификацию: у неё был выключен ген синтеза одного из несвойственных человеку сахароз.
