Halloween and Neil deGrasse Tyson | StarTalk

I was never big into Halloween costumes. When I was a child, I had a costume, but I didn't have so much invested in what it was or what it looked like that it became a part of my childhood memories.

I grew up; my formative years were in a huge apartment building, 22 stories tall, 24 apartments per floor, and there were three of these buildings. There were thousands of people in this community.

It's apartment door right after apartment door, separated by 20 feet. So we would go trick-or-treating and fill an entire shopping bag of candy, take it home, take out another bag, and continue this.

I pitied children who lived in the suburbs, who would have to like walk down the sidewalk, go up the walkway, knock on the door, wait for them to answer, get a few pieces of candy, say thank you, walk back to the sidewalk, and continue this. I said those poor children, they don't get any candy at all.

What was like the best candy that you could get? I liked, of course, you know, I mean, I've been at this for a while: Milky Way, the Mars Bar, I'm good with that. Duh, stupid question, of course that's what I liked.

Let’s see if we can take the derivative with respect to (x) of the fourth root of (x^3 + 4x^2 + 7). At first, you might say, “All right, how do I take the derivative of a fourth root of something?” It looks like I have a composite function; I’m taking the…
Parametric curves | Multivariable calculus | Khan Academy
More function visualizations. So, let’s say you have a function; it’s got a single input T, and then it outputs a vector. The vector is going to depend on T. So, the X component will be T times the cosine of T, and then the Y component will be T times the…
