What I eat in a week in med school-foodie edition
Hi guys, it's me, Judy. I'm back with another vlog. I wanted to do a quick little live update while showing whatever I ate this week. My life is currently in a mess, and I kind of felt like I need to do a live update. I'm currently looking for an apartment, but I couldn't find any apartment, so I'm staying at a hotel, and I'm eating out every single day. My stomach is kind of messed up, but I'm doing fine, and I decided to show you guys what I eat during med school because I eat some yummy stuff.
That day, we decided to go to a Uighur restaurant with two of my friends, Cnam and Mustafa. Both of them are from my uni; we are studying medicine all together. Cnam is in my class, and Mustafa is in the second grade because last year I took a gap year, and we know each other from last year. Somebody commented on my Instagram story that we all look alike; it's probably because we all have like Asian origins, that's probably why.
Anyways, that day we decided to go to Aksaray, which is not so safe place in Istanbul, to be honest, but they have like some amazing Uighur food. So we decided to eat them all together because all three of us love Uighur food. If you haven't ever tried Uighur food and if you're living in Turkey, I would highly, highly recommend you to try some Uighur food. It tastes good, and also, they're pretty affordable.
I'm nothing without you. I'm nothing what I do. I'm nothing without one. As I said, we were in Aksaray because there's so many thieves and acts that they can like steal your phone or I don't know whatever you have. So I was kind of scared pointing my camera towards me because somebody can steal my camera. I'm not saying that Turkey is an unsafe country whatsoever, but if you're going to Aksaray as a tourist, you gotta be careful. Don't get offended.
[Music] [Applause] [Music] Let me do it. [Music]
And we arrived at the restaurant. This is the restaurant that we've been like going to with my family for more than 10 years. I know them very well; they know me very well. Their food is amazing. I will put the address down in the description below so that you can go as well. The video itself is not sponsored at all; I just like film the restaurants that I go and that I enjoy.
[Music] We decided to have some boba tea, but Cnam had things to do, so she couldn't join us.
Okay, so I got that from school, and this is my hotel room. This is the shower; I live, you know, bathroom, shower, and stuff. And here is my room. I think it looks good. It's like the hotel itself is pretty new, and also we have like a little nice desk here and also a mirror. I like the detail of like desk and a mirror because you don't feel like, you know, really stuck. The room itself is pretty small, but I like the design. I like the desk and, you know, sofa and the bed and stuff. Yep, this is where I'm gonna stay this week.
Here you see my uni lunch; it's literally 3.5 liters, which is around like 38 cents. It doesn't taste good, it doesn't look good, but you know, for 38 cents, what do you expect? Here you can see me dying out of boredom during the lectures because lectures in the first grade are not really fun, but I hope it will get better in second and third grade.
After uni, we decided to go to a restaurant called Barmy with Mustafa. [Music] We ordered some summer roll, hummus, and cocoa bowls. The owner of Barmy is one of my mom's close friends, and I really love their food. I'm not just saying this because we're like very close, but the food itself is really good. The place is really chill; I just really recommend you guys to go there. I'll be probably there every single week, so if you want to meet me, just come there and eat with me.
[Music] They have alcoholic beverages as well as non-alcoholic beverages, so if you are a drinker or non-drinker, you can enjoy both of them. We ordered more food because Mustafa was really hungry—not because I was hungry, because Mustafa was hungry—and we shared all of those foods. I like to go outside with others and eat together and share my food so that we can like try different foods. I like trying out new things, and I just enjoy eating food.
After that, we ordered a dessert called Khat media. [Music] Yeah, so I'll put the location of Barmy in the description as well. This video is not sponsored at all, but I will be there probably like weekly, so if you want to see me, order some food, eat with me, drink with me, whatever, and yeah, enjoy food with me. I really do want to support Barmy because I know how they struggled during the COVID season and before the COVID season, and also right now as well. Food and the drinks and every single thing is amazing, so just give it a shot. Order some food; eat something. I just highly recommend it, y'all—not because they're really close to our family, but I just love the food itself, so yeah. Don't forget to check out Barmy. Hashtag not sponsored.
This is the next day, me getting ready for med school. I was staying at a different hotel by myself, but then I decided to move to a better hotel with my mom, and this is me pouring a coffee. Yes, we brought our own filter and our coffee to a hotel because my mom and I are literally coffee addicts. We drink so much coffee in a day, and the coffee they put in a hotel is not enough—not enough at all. We gotta bring our own coffee.
Lately, I've been thinking about the choices I have made, about the life I've chosen for myself. I wonder how it would pan out if I stuck to the status quo and stayed in England. Never know, but when I see my friends, I see them with this golden globe. It seems they can touch the rainbow. I guess I'll never know, never know, never know—would that be me?
[Music] If I stayed in my city. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
And often, we're reminded to enjoy each day and find it in ourselves to show some gratitude for every moment. Slipping through, I try so hard to just be present. Mom will slip the other lessons; I can't help but wonder, but I guess I'll never know what the other book looks like.
I want to buy clothes because this is the best that I can do—just like a black doll, black shirt, and a necklace, and that's it. I truly admire people who have like a very good outfit every single day. I just admire so much, and I respect them because I look like this every single day—so, so boring. I mean, I wouldn't like wear every single day like a different thing because it's just like too tiring. Also, secondly, it's not really good for the environment to buy like really fast fashion. If you cannot afford good quality pieces, then it's totally okay to buy fast fashion, but if you're an influencer or whatever, and if you're like making money, and if you're just like buying fast fashion all the time and if you're not wearing them twice and just like throwing them away, of course, it's a problem.
I guess these days, there is like a huge problem with Shein. I don't know that clothing brand; I guess I've seen a couple of videos about that, how those influencers are just like affecting the environment in a bad way. When it comes to me, most of my clothes are from my mom; like she used to wear them 20 years ago or something. It lasts like 20 years. Think about it—like most of them are from very good brands, and the ones that I bought myself are usually from Uniqlo. We love Uniqlo as Japanese. Love Uniqlo—good quality. Maybe not that like, you know, chic, but it does its job.
Also, I don't really wear fancy clothing because I don't have fancy clothes. I just like wear very, very, very basic stuff because I think I don't have like courage to try different things. Also, a body—this morphie is killing me out.
[Music] Don't tell me about your worries. I ain't staying till the afternoon like you in proximity, but now they're so far from the truth. I loved you from a distance; now I can't even stand close to you. But who do I call if it ain't you? Tell me who to call if it ain't you? I've been placing circles in my bedroom.
[Music] [Music]
In your head, I decided to randomly show my lecture hall classroom because I kind of felt like I'm not filming enough of my school. I'm trying to get better at it because I feel shy while filming in school because people stare at me, and I don't know. I just feel shy, but I'll promise I'll get better at it.
After uni, I met with my mom, and we decided to have some Italian because I was craving some Italian food. I love Italian food. I love Italian cuisine so much. [Applause] [Music]
Settling in, settling. [Music] Each of us. [Music] Foreign. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
And you make me want to say, "I love you better today." [Music] [Music]
Apart, apart. [Music] [Music]
Somebody teach me how to put out this on—like what is this? I'm kind of embarrassed. Like every single YouTuber slash influencer looks so good all the time, and I look like a mess. I guess it is important to not compare yourself. Our room is clean and nice and fresh; I feel good.
Yo, by the way, I don't know if I said it, but you can see the Ayasofya, Hagia Sophia, and Sultan Ahmed Mosque, and also the Maiden Tower. Couscous, and you can see—I mean, the view is amazing, like the sea view stuff. Ah, yeah, by the way, I have like a—I have an exam tomorrow, and I have to study for that. I remember that I'm actually a student, so I gotta do that.
A lot of people expect me for him to drop out med school. Why? If you're trying to become a doctor just for money, then don't do it. Try another thing. You can make much more money easily in the US. I know that doctors make a hell of money, but in Turkey, it's not always the case. For sure, in Japan and in Turkey, they're probably in the top 10 of the population, but it's not like huge, huge money, you know what I mean?
And you can watch Ali’s video—Ali Abdul’s video. He explains how much money he makes as a doctor slash YouTuber, and you can see that he makes five times more, I guess; more money as a YouTuber than as a doctor. So these days, you can make much more money online if you're a successful YouTuber than a doctor.
But the thing is, there are more doctors in the world than YouTubers, like successful YouTubers, I would say. It's highly competitive either way. So I think the best way to do it is to become a doctor slash YouTuber. Also, being a YouTuber is not really stable; like every single month my income is like so much, you know, kind of changing. Some months it's much more higher, sometimes it's much more lower. It depends on the month; it depends on how many videos I made, and also it depends on some like external factors like that I cannot control—how many views it got and stuff.
For sure, you can play with the SEO and analytics and all that stuff, but you cannot control fully how many views that video gets. It's totally based on the viewer. I mean, there are more complicated things about this, but I'm not going to talk about this in this video. But I can explain it—how to become like a successful YouTuber in a short period of time, blah blah blah, those things if you guys are interested.
Ah, what? How can I use this air conditioner? I like my room to be cold, and my mom hates it. Yep, ah, yep, 22 degrees. Yep, that was a real random vlog. I promise I'll post better videos. Let me see my next video. Bye.
