Dung to the Rescue | Primal Survivor
[Music] Now I need to make a fire before it gets dark. I'm using a traditional method called a hand drill. This relies on friction between a soft wood base and a hard straight stick.
I found that sticks that are hollow inside trap heat better, and it makes it easier to make the fire. Pushing down as I spin the stick makes a groove near the edge of the soft wood. Now I have to carve a notch here; it kind of looks like a piece of pie that goes into my circle.
There, this is a clever technique. The notch keeps hot dust together to form an ember while allowing airflow, which helps it to burn. And now for the secret weapon: elephant dung! Take some of this; you see that little coal right there?
Now you just have to gently, gently feed it. It's very fragile at this stage. Ever so slightly put it in there. The dung surrounds the hot coal with fuel.
Yeah, we have fire! We have fire! Very, very, very good news. The smoke will disguise the scent of my goat meat offering, which should also be out of reach of most predators. But that won't stop them from trying.
