Want to know what the surface of Mars feels like? Well, this is MGS1, a precision Martian regolith simulant used by NASA, ISRO, private space companies, and universities to simulate the ground on Mars. It's manufactured by Space Resource Technologies right here on Earth, but its physical properties and chemical composition are based on what Curiosity found at the Rock Nest site in Gale Crater on Mars.

If you're a member of the Curiosity Box, I'm sending you 50 g of this stuff in your next box. You could use it to stain your clothes in otherworldly ways. You could try to conjure life from its long slumber, but do not breathe it in. No crystalline perchlorate salts were found at the Rock Nest site, but what was found there is still pretty bad for you, especially your lungs.

This dust has been sharpened in the same way that Martian winds would sharpen the dust. I chose the most realistic set of specifications because when you join the Curiosity Box, I decide what you get. Now, most people wouldn't want something that's dangerously accurate, but you're not most people, are you?
