Всё дело в том, что некоторые цвета мыльная плёнка не отражает. На неё падает полный спектр, но она в зависимости от толщины слоя удерживает волны той или иной длины.

Глядя на плёнку, мы видим смесь тех цветов, которые от неё отразились. Чтобы, к примеру, получился оттенок пурпурного, нам нужно убрать зелёный — тот цвет, который отражается от передней поверхности плёнки, интерферирует со светом, отражённым от задней поверхности.

В данном случае волны длиной около 500 нм гасят друг друга и исчезают из отражённого спектра, и до нас доходит всё остальное. Свет с длиной волны меньше или больше длины волны зелёного, их сочетание даст красивый пурпурный цвет.
