Пить алкоголь придумал не человек. Соком забродивших фруктов животные достаточно регулярно вводят себя в состояние опьянения. Это привело к тому, что в процессе эволюции у млекопитающих выработался механизм ответа на интоксикацию, состав которого включает утилизирующий алкоголь фермент.

Еще один винтик этого механизма — это гормон, вырабатываемый печенью в ответ на стрессовые угрозы, вроде недоедания, недостатка белка и в том числе и алкоголь. Fgf-21. В новом исследовании выяснилось, что этот гормон обладает еще рядом свойств.

Учёные экспериментировали на насильно пьяных мышах, пытаясь добиться нейтрализации интоксикации. В группах были и обычные мыши, и мыши с отключенным геном гормона fgf-21. Оказалось, что инъекция гормона значительно снижала время, требующееся на восстановление и снижение интоксикации.

Эффект зависел от дозы, но быстрее чем в два раза отрезвить мышей по сравнению с контрольной группой.
