Это так называемый тон Шепарда. Вот как он звучит: [музыка].

Отдельно бесконечно восходящий тон быть не может, потому что у человеческого слуха есть предел — 20.000 Гц. Но звук не замолкает и, как будто, никогда не прекращает подниматься.

Вся хитрость в том, что это не одна нота — одновременно звучат несколько частот, разделённых октавами. Каждая частота увеличивается. Но вместе с тем меняется и громкость: высокие ноты звучат всё тише, а более низкий выступает на первый план.

Когда высокие ноты окончательно стихают, добавляются новые низкие ноты. Отсюда и берётся иллюзия, что звук вечно поднимается.
