Sweetening the Deal | Yukon River Run

Saw y'all come in and wondered what the deal was in a town this far down river. 11 tons of lumber will get people's attention in a hurry. What do you plan to do with it?

We were planning to sell this raft and cow tag for cash money, and that's where we're headed with it. But this ice now is gathering every day, yeah, as you know. And, uh, we're not sure if we're going to make it. So, uh, we're actively looking for a buyer for it.

Well, I, yeah, it did catch my eye. I wondered about it. Tell me about the logs under.

Oh, there's 14 of them. That's 20 to 24 inches in diameter. Real nice logs. Could build a cabin, could build a fish wheel, could build anything you want to out of them. Are you interested in the whole package?

I am. Well, were you hoping to get out of it?

We wanted to make 8,500 for the whole nine yards—the whole raft, gear, equipment, logs, everything.

Well, look, I can't do 85, but I'm interested. I could give you 6,500 today.

I was kind of wanting more than that for it. The deal is here I'd have to take it apart piece by piece. Um, if you could find a way to get it up there further up in that slew where I could come in and actually lift it out, I could go a little more.

Now, how far up you talking about?

Well, you know, you're talking half a mile at the most where I can get some equipment in there and actually lift it out.

Half a mile in this stuff? What would you offer us?

It'd be worth another thousand. I think I could go 7,500 if you could get it up there for me.

7,500? It ain't too bad, you know. That beats trying to force our way down river.

I know, but we've only got 30 miles.

Yeah, but 30 miles in this? Push off here and try to make it, not get anything or sell it right here. I think we should take that.

[Music] Okay, all right, well, we'll see if we can't get it up to sleeve for you.

All right, it's been great to do business with you. Thanks again.

Thanks again!

Randy does work for the local school district here. He'll use the wood to keep his family warm through the winter and resell the extra logs to the community.

We could have made more—another grand or so—by getting this thing on down to Cal tag, but, uh, we're out of time. Old Man River is calling the shots; we're not. We got to sell it here, that's what we're going to do. We have no choice.
