Ряд хвостатых земноводных, например, один из видов червяги, многие саламандры, некоторые тритоны настолько преисполнились в своей водности, что утратили лёгкие. Весь необходимый кислород они получают при помощи кожного дыхания.

Но обычно амфибии, за исключением некоторых, имеющих жабры, вместе с кожей используют для дыхания и лёгкие. Все бесхвостые амфибии точно делают именно так, кроме калимантанский барбул.

В 2008 году учёные, описывая анатомию этой лягушки, указали, что у неё нет лёгких в принципе, как и голосовой щели. Ну, которые без лёгких, в общем-то, бесполезно.

Но в двадцать третьем году другие учёные поставили под сомнение столь необычное явление. Они взяли музейные экспонаты, по которым когда-то проводились первые исследования, прогнали их через микрокомпьютерный томограф и обнаружили странные образования, напоминающие лёгкие.

При дальнейших исследованиях выяснилось, что это действительно лёгкие, только очень маленькие, без сложного ячеистого строения. Да и голосовая щель тоже обнаружилась.
