Об излечении Четвёртого в истории пациента от ВИЧ. Впервые это была женщина смешанного происхождения, и впервые для терапии была использована не пересадка костного мозга от донора, защищающего от ВИЧ-мутаций, а переливание пуповинной крови младенцев с такой же мутацией.

Собственно, есть вопрос: почему бы каждому человеку такую пересадку не делать? Подобрать донора костного мозга достаточно сложно, особенно для представителей неевропеоидной расы, у которых мутация защиты от ВИЧ почти не встречается. К тому же пересадка сопряжена с уничтожением иммунитета, осложнениями в виде реакции трансплантат против хозяина и другими.

И вообще несет множество рисков, поэтому в общем случае гораздо проще получать пожизненную антиретровирусную терапию, подавляющую ВИЧ, и не подвергать себя высокому риску. Возможно, с пуповинной кровью процесс будет проще, но вряд ли. Радика.
