Основная проблема с ксенотрансплантацией - это отторжение органов. В нашем случае, как и часто делается, она решалась генетической модификацией свиньи-донора при помощи CRISPR/Cas. У неё были наути три гена, приводящие к отторжению органа, добавлены семь человеческих трансгенов, помогающих регулировать воспалительные реакции, иммунитет и свёртываемость крови.

А также были выключены встроенные в геном свиньи ретровирусы. Такие вирусы - это вторая проблема, приводящая к провалу пересадок. После операции почка приступила к своим обязанностям. Она выводила мочу и креатинин, пациент уже через неделю перемещался по больнице и чувствовал себя довольно хорошо.

Гемодиализ ему не нужен, а вот иммуносупрессоры, то есть лекарства, подавляющие иммунитет, обязательно, причём к стандартным иммуносупрессорам добавляется пробар.
