This is why we NEED to Protect the Ocean

One area that you're particularly passionate about is the ocean. You and your son Mark co-founded Ocean X, which focuses on exploring, researching, and above all, protecting the ocean. What impact is the changing climate having on the ocean?

Um, beyond raising temperatures, tell us more about why you think the ocean's so important.

Well, the ocean is absorbing about 90% of the excess heat, and it's absorbing about 23% of the excess carbon that's being produced. So, it's important. It also has the effect of shifting sea currents and so on, so it's going to have a big effect.

The ocean is our biggest thing. It's twice the size of all land combined, and so it's ignored because it's just below the surface. But it has an enormous impact. Its health and the discovery of what's in the ocean is not only very important, but it's also very exciting.

However, it's being largely neglected. So, we're excited to help the exploration and bring it to the public's attention the way Jacques Cousteau did.

Introduction to sampling distributions | Sampling distributions | AP Statistics | Khan Academy
What we’re going to do in this video is talk about the idea of a sampling distribution. Now, just to make things a little bit concrete, let’s imagine that we have a population of some kind. Let’s say it’s a bunch of balls; each of them has a number writte…
Gupta Dynasty | World History | Khan Academy
In previous videos, we talked about the emergence of the Morya Empire around 322 BCE, shortly after the invasion of Alexander the Great, as the first truly great Indian empire that unifies most of the Indian subcontinent. Now, that empire eventually falls…
One-sided limits from tables | Limits and continuity | AP Calculus AB | Khan Academy
The function ( f ) is defined over the real numbers. This table gives select values of ( f ). We have our table here; for any of these ( x ) values, it gives the corresponding ( f(x) ). What is a reasonable estimate for the limit of ( f(x) ) as ( x ) appr…
Differentiability at a point: algebraic (function is differentiable) | AP Calculus AB | Khan Academy
Is the function given below continuous differentiable at x = 3? And they’ve defined it piecewise, and we have some choices: continuous, not differentiable, differentiable, not continuous, both continuous and differentiable, neither continuous nor differen…
Putting a Species on the Map | Explorers Fest
[Applause] Thank you. Last time I was here in DC, I had the chance to be on stage. You know what I did? I came flying just like that. Many people have been asking me, do you still fly? The answer is yes, I fly every day, and I enjoy it. And the hope today…
Calculating correlation coefficient r | AP Statistics | Khan Academy
What we’re going to do in this video is calculate by hand the correlation coefficient for a set of bivariate data. When I say bivariate, it’s just a fancy way of saying for each x data point, there is a corresponding y data point. Now, before I calculate…
