Road Trip to the Sawtooth Mountains | National Geographic
[Sofia] Nature and family have always existed within the same worlds for me. My name is Sofia Jaramillo. I'm a National Geographic photographer. I'm going on a road trip with my brother Lucas.
Good to see you!
[Sofia] To a place that was really important to us as kids. I grew up visiting the Sawtooths here in Idaho pretty often. My godparents used to run Redfish Lake Lodge, so I spent almost every summer here growing up with my brother, and I'm really excited to go on this road trip with him.
Oh nice, you have KnowYourDrive?
Yeah, so we have emergency roadside service if we need it. I think my brother is the sweetest human. Perfect. (laughing) He's got a really, really huge heart, and I think that there needs to be more of him in the world. Do you remember coming here when we were kids?
I do. Such a beautiful spot.
[Sofia] I certainly long for road trips.
The Pickle Palace. Those fried pickles the baddest. I'll be whipping my hair on that big green chair.
[Sofia] Road trips are when life is unfolding. That's when you have to surrender to the experiences that are gonna happen in front of you.
Cool.
[Sofia] My family is a huge reason that I'm a National Geographic photographer. They were the ones that introduced me to the outdoors and taught me how to love the outdoors and be in the outdoors. I learned that there's a lot of incredible things in our backyard within hours of where we live and that you don't have to travel around the world to find beauty. Photographing a place that was such a big part of who I am was such a powerful experience. I'm always gonna remember this for the rest of my life, and it'll be really nice to have those photos and look back on them. And I think it's always worth a road trip to come back to this place to reconnect.
