ALL MY ACCOUNTS WERE HACKED *How this happened*
So guys, this is some super like serious stuff. I mean, it's really scary when you start to think about it, but all of my accounts have been hacked. Someone was able to get access to my YouTube channel, my social media accounts, all of my email accounts, and my phone. That's how crazy this is! I was debating whether or not I want to make this video because I'm almost a hundred percent sure the person who hacked me is probably watching this right now. It's pretty crazy to think what's possible when you have just very little information about a person in terms of you know, you getting access to these accounts.
Especially when you think of yourself of ever putting yourself out online and just how vulnerable that makes you. I'd like this started by the way; I saw Tanner Jay Fox's video of someone who had to do his accountant stole his Bitcoin and that is just like insane stuff. I could not believe it, but I also felt for myself, you know, I don't have any Bitcoin, I’m not in bit connect, I’m not doing any of these things and I'm thinking, you know, nobody's gonna want access to any of my accounts or anything like that. I thought, you know, whatever, but at the same time, you realize that you are a public figure and you put yourself out in front of, you know, sometimes tens of thousands of people and you have a level of transparency with you.
If you disclose certain personal things, it doesn’t take much if someone's really wanting to impersonate you to get access to your accounts. It really doesn't take much in order to do that unfortunately. So here's what happened, and here's how you guys can prevent this from happening because I was honestly shocked at the simplicity in order to hack into my accounts and, you know, the potential to wreak havoc with, you know, having that much information at someone's fingertips.
So here's how it happened, here's how you can prevent that, and here's how scary this is when you really think about it. Now, I'm disclosing how this person was able to do this not so much to share this into like, you know, so people could see the vulnerabilities here, but it's more so for all of you guys watching not to make the same mistakes that I have made.
So here's how it started. I was on my phone, and as I was on my phone, I got a text message from my cell phone carrier that said, “You have successfully changed your SIM card. If you did not make this change, please contact.” I'm thinking, “What the f***? What’s going on? This is something really unusual.” Now, all the time, I hate to say it, but all the time I get these emails like, you know, too many failed login attempts on my Instagram or too many failed login attempts on my Snapchat, and I figured that’s realistically probably some kid thinking they're gonna be able to get into my Instagram accounts and, you know, around or do something stupid.
So I, you know, those are all things I'm not worried about. Someone's stealing my password, but taking a SIM card, that’s pretty serious. So I'm thinking about it, and like I'm frozen for a second as I saw this text, and not even a second later after that, my phone goes from like full reception to no service and I'm just like, “What?” Nothing, just tap, like no service. I think it’s not even real for a second. So, I call my cell phone carrier, and it turns out that somebody was able to call them as me. They had the last four of my social security number, they had my cell phone number, and they were able to change my SIM card.
This means that just by having my name, my number, and the last four of my social, you can change the SIM card and have access to my phone number, my text messages. That's insane! So as I'm on the phone with my cell phone carrier, I'm just like, “We gotta reverse this as soon as possible! I have no idea what someone can do with that information and what they have access to.” I'm thinking like Tanner Fox just had like 200 grand stolen from his account; what can they do with mine?
And, you know, just the amount of information you have out there, you just don't even think about it until it's compromised. So, after 30 minutes, by the way, 30 minutes speaking with, you know, the cellphone company, they were able to switch the SIM card back to me and as soon as it comes back to me, I get some notifications popping up on my phone saying like, “Congratulations! Your password has been changed. Your password has been changed. Your password has been switched.”
It's hard to explain, but I was like frozen. It's such like a surreal feeling too because I don't know, I’m sorry, I trust everybody. And it's like, you know, basically as they went into it, I'm like every single one of my accounts they were able to go in and click “forgot my password.” Then because they had my phone number, over text, they could click, you know, send text message verification that sent them a text message code to then go and change my password on everything.
Yeah, you know, pretty much every single one of my accounts, they were able to get in my accounts and change the passwords just from having my, you know, my cell phone number available to them at the time. Everything, they were able to change everything. Now I got all of my accounts back except YouTube, and that was one of those things where it's like, “What? You know, what’s gonna happen to that? Like, how am I gonna get my YouTube account back?”
Thankfully I was able to get a manual override. The person who runs my email account, which thankfully that saved the YouTube channel and that's why you're watching this video today is because of that person. But the scary thing is that what you don't think about and the vulnerability here is that if somebody gets access to your cell phone number, you pretty much link that up with almost every single one of your accounts.
You know, I'll be the first to say, and pretty much all of my social media accounts are linked to my phone number. So if somebody gets access to my text messages, they pretty much have access to change whatever they want. In order to have access to a telephone number, you need to have access to the last four of the social security number. Which, as we know, social security numbers are worthless. I mean, with all the hacks that go on, I mean, I don't even know why we still use such an archaic way of, you know, identification as social security numbers. To me that just seems like asking for trouble.
I'm not sharing this just to expose this like flaw in the, you know, authentication system of, you know, login information. Instead, it's just to show you guys how vulnerable you are to any sort of attack. And, you know, even for me, like I didn’t feel like I was at risk of anything because, like I don’t have Bitcoin, you know, I don’t carry a lot of money in my bank accounts and stuff like that just because I have it all invested.
But at the same time, I mean, there’s really a lot at risk if you have all this information that, you know, is easily hacked into. So, with that said, what can you do? I would definitely make sure you call, you know, and it doesn't matter, by the way, if you have like a big following or not, or just like who you are; it makes no difference whatsoever. I would make sure that for your cell phone, because this all started with my cell phone. If they didn’t have access to my text messages, they wouldn’t have been able to access everything.
So it started there. That’s where the problem started. What I did after that I’d suggest a lot of you do the same is instead of having your authentication when you call your cell phone carrier from the last four of your social, which I think most cell phone carriers do this, instead of doing that, set up a very long string of digits as your identification code.
That’s something that people just can’t go; unless you’re like an insider with the cell phone company, people can’t just go in, hack and like get a social security number and a name and a phone number and then boom, done. They’re gonna have to know whatever string of code you decided to give as your password. And that’s what I ended up doing! I mean, I went after this after I got all my accounts back to such extremes and that’s why I wanted to make this video.
I mean, I spent three hours going over every single account changing. I mean, I’ve made like new email addresses. I have, you know, new phone numbers on everything. I have, you know, erased a lot that would be able to be compromised like that. And, you know, something that a lot of us don’t think about, I certainly didn’t think about it, especially until it actually happened.
So for everybody watching, I’d highly recommend, highly recommend that you make sure that your accounts are safe and that you make sure that you don’t use something as simple as name, phone number, last four social to identify you. My opinion with this person, because I have a feeling I know who you are, and I, you know, I think I’ve... I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I think this person is mainly looking for Bitcoin, and mainly looking to steal something that’s going to be untraceable.
So this is especially true if you have any Bitcoin. I don’t think this is a person who's out there to steal any sort of information. I think this is a person who is maybe opportunistic and seeking ways to get untraceable funds. That's probably gotta be, it's got to be Bitcoin, or they could affect anybody. It’s better to be on the safe side than panic like me and have it happen to you and then be caught off guard and, you know, go through a bit of a scare like that.
Now again, thankfully it all worked out, and thankfully, you know, I was able to make everything work. I'm hoping this experience will at least save maybe a few of you guys watching. And if you're watching this and this has happened to you, dude, I mean that's seriously fed up! I mean, it's really fed up. I don't know, man. I mean, I'd have no idea what you'd be going through in your life to turn to something like that, and it’s like, it’s easy for me to say, you know, shame on you for doing something like this; that’s terrible of you, you should go to hell.
At the same time, it’s just like you must have gone through some like serious hardships and really seeing some s*** that maybe I haven’t been exposed to, to see that as an option and to see hacking accounts and stuff like that as a way to steal information or, you know, extort money or, you know, try to do anything like that. You know, if that’s the way you have to turn to, you know, I just think it’s sad and I wish you all the best and, you know, hope you end up turning your life around and not resorting to this. But, you know, who knows if you listen to this or not? Thanks for watching, and I didn’t expect to make a video like this. Anyway, alright, thanks for watching!
