Недавно зоологи обнаружили, что саванны и слоны используют индивидуальные голосовые маркировки, или проще говоря, имена для обращения друг к другу. Учёные проанализировали почти 500 звуковых сигналов слонов, записанных в Кении. Компьютерная модель показала уверенность не очень высокую — 30-40% при определении имён. Но это всё равно гораздо выше вероятности случайных совпадений. Возможно, учёные просто чего-то не учитывали в нюансах голосов слонов.

Ранее считалось, что только некоторые животные — афалины и попугаи — имеют аналоги имён. Но их имена — это подражание их собственным индивидуальным позывным. У слонов же, как и у людей, имена произвольные. Их звучание не связано напрямую с тем, кто носит это имя, с его голосом или другими особенностями.

Слоны меняют свои звуковые сигналы в зависимости от того, кому они адресованы. При общении с другими особями слоны используют уникальные звуковые маркировки, и к одному и тому же слону его сородичи обращаются одинаково.
