Set Hidden Settings In Safari 4 (Shoe)

Hey guys, this is macad101, and today is going to be a video on a few simple settings that, um, are hidden in Safari that you can enable. Most of these settings make it more like the old Safari.

Um, so I'll just get right to it. Um, if you take a look at Safari right now, I'm typing Google; it gives us suggestions. If we the tabs are on the top, obviously. Um, in bookmarks, you can use cover flow.

Um, so yeah. So say in Safari you don't like some of these features and you want to, um, go in and change them. Mac head Zone One has made our own little terminal application that knows how to go into the Safari preferences and change them for you, and we like to call it trick D.

Um, so um, if you're on top leopard, you by default can just double click this, and it'll open. Otherwise, you can open up terminal, then drag it in, then hit enter in terminal.

Um, either way it should work. Um, I will also point out that, um, this is made in Perl, so it's open source. So you can just click it, open with other, and open it with, say, Taco HTML edit or some other text editor, and here's all our source code.

Um, I will also point out that, um, please don't steal our source code. If you want to download this, it'll be available in the description of this video, um, as well as, um, on machines and on.com.

Um, except on macades101.com, it won't be called trick D; it will be called shoe. Um, so just keep that in mind. It's under the Mac applications.

Um, so um, right now when you open it up in terminal, however you want to do it, use the new tab system; that's the tabs on the top. I'll just say no to everything here, and I will point out that you should turn caps lock on while typing no or yes because they have to be capitalized.

Right here in brackets, it says yes; that's the default. That's what it was like when it came with your computer, so I'll just say no there, no there, no there, no there, and no there, just to make every setting different.

So I've saved my settings, so now I'll open up Safari. And so right here the tabs are on the bottom; bookmarks don't use cover flow.

Um, let me just show you right now the Google search thing doesn't have any suggestions. Um, so those are all the preferences. Let me just see.

Um, so the toolbar now has a loading bar on it as well; like if you go to apple.com, see it has the loading bar on top of it; that got disabled, so I'll just re-enable all these settings.

So I'll turn on caps lock and type yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Okay, so now I've set all the settings on again. By the way, when you're setting the settings, first quit Safari.

And when I say quit, I don't mean just close the window; click Safari and click quit Safari, um, before setting the settings. So now it's back to normal. So that's pretty easy to do.

So um, that's our application trick D. If you want to download it on our Mac downloads page, it will be called shoe. Um, so thank you for watching, mad kids, and unsubscribe and goodbye.
