Электроны - это по сути очень маленькие магниты. Но в большинстве атомов они разбиты по парам: один смотрит в одну сторону, второй - в другую, и их поля компенсируются.

Бывает, что на внешней орбитали не хватает электронов, чтобы все были по парам, и тогда у атомов получается своё магнитное поле. Однако, если соседние атомы смотрят в разные стороны, то они компенсируют поля друг друга, и вещество в целом не проявляет магнитных свойств.

Поля магнитных доменов, скопления атомов, которые смотрят в одну сторону, могут отменить поля соседних доменов, где атомы развернуты иначе. Поэтому необходимо одинаково расположить атомы во всех доменах.

Видели раньше такие магнитики? Вот это пока что просто кусочки металла. Всё что нам нужно, это поместить их в очень сильное магнитное поле.
