Во всех крупнейших обсерваториях мира существовали просто такие коллективы женщин-вычислительниц-наблюдательниц, функция которых входила в производство аккуратных вычислений и наблюдений.

Я хочу напомнить знаменитый Рем Пикеринг в Гарвардской обсерватории. Цела группа женщин, которые этим занимались, из неё вышли такие, кстати, звёзды мировой астрономии, как Вемина, Лемин, как знаменитая Генри, открывшая период светимости для фиит.

Очень много славных страниц астрономии были написаны именно участницами этой женской лаборатории, которую, конечно, только в шутки называли гаремом Пикеринга. Эдвард Чарльз Пикеринг, профессор, был руководителем Гарвардской обсерватории, и поэтому такая шутка имела хождение.
